Top Wedding Planning Blunders to Avoid

Even if you plan your wedding to the tiniest detail, some things can go wrong. There can be an unexpected fire at the venue, or your relatives could be trapped in gridlock traffic. But, there are some wedding fiascos that you can prevent by avoiding these planning mistakes.

The first one is inviting too many people to your wedding. Your wedding guest list and your venue should match up. You can’t afford to fit 200 people in a venue that can only hold 100. If the venue has a limit, you have to consider this before sending out the invitations. For a venue that can seat 100 people comfortably, you cannot send out 150 invitations and hope that enough people will not accept it for all the attendees to fit. You don’t want to have to turn away the surplus guests as they arrive at the venue.

Additionally, even if the vendor is willing, most are prohibited from adding tables and seats just to accommodate a few more stragglers. Fire laws must be obeyed. So, make sure that you plan your gust list strategically from the start. Set a number and invite those people first. If you still have room for more after getting all the responses, then you can opt to send out a second batch of invites.

Another big mistake when planning a wedding is not asking questions during your meeting with the vendors. You may want to seem polite but asking questions to get all the information is normal. Ask for more information if you want specifics.

For example, if your florists say white flowers, ask if they are going to put carnations, mums, or peonies. It may seem too nitpicky or impolite but you are the one paying for these flowers. Another detail could be desserts. If your caterer says mini tarts, you can ask what kind of mini tarts are they going to be? Are they going to clash with your wedding cake? If you are going to serve coffee, what type of coffee will it be? You deserve to know. However, don’t go overboard. This is the next blunder that you have to avoid.

The next major mistake that a wedding couple can commit is micromanaging the vendors. There is a reason why you are hiring a baker and not baking the wedding cake yourself. While it may seem so tempting to have a hand in all the things that are happening in your event, it isn’t a good idea to worry yourself about the smallest details of your wedding.

Once the initial meeting has been concluded, it is best to take a step back and let the professionals do their job. It is a good idea to check in once in a while but you have to trust that your caterers and organizers have everything under control. The more you micromanage them, the less inclined they will be to do you favors.

Finally, don’t hire a friend over a pro. Your friend at work may have an impressive collection of photos, but that doesn’t mean he will make the best wedding photographer. Even if your budget is limited, it always pays to pay a professional. Instead of hiring your cousin to run a make-shift photo booth, hire a good company that provides cabina foto or photobooth services. Your guests are going to enjoy themselves better if they are not given a job on the day of the wedding, plus you’ll have great photos to cherish for years to come.
